Jano Life Inc. ("JanoLife," "we," "our," or "us") cares about the privacy of people who use our website at https://petal.today, the Jano Petal wearable, and our mobile apps (together, our "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share your data. By using our Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. Your use is also subject to our Terms of Service (https://petal.today/policies/terms-of-service).
If you live in Washington or Nevada, please also read our Washington and Nevada Resident Privacy Notice at https://petal.today/pages/privacy-policy-wa-nv to learn what data we collect and share, and how to use your rights under these laws..
What Information Do We Collect?
We may collect data from you and your devices in the ways shown below.
A. Information You Provide to Us
- Registration and Account Information: When you sign up, we ask for your name, email, and mailing address. If you sign up with Shopify, we get your name and email from Shopify.
- App Profile & Logged Data: To set your baselines, we ask for your age, height, and weight. You can also log things in the app, like your symptoms.
- Communications: If you contact us, we may get more data about you. This may include your name, email, the text or files you send us, and anything else you share. When we email you, we may use pixels or other tools to track how you use our emails. This shows us if and when you open them, which links you click, how long you read, whether you forward them, and who you forward them to. We also log your Device Info to improve our Services.
- Orders: If you order one of our products (like the Petal), we collect your name, email, shipping info, and phone number.
- Email List: If you join our email list, we ask for your name and email.
- Careers: If you apply for a job, you can send your contact info and resume online. We collect what you share on your resume, like your school and work history. You can also apply through a third-party service, like LinkedIn. If you do, we get the data you share there.
- Payment Information: When you pay us, your card or other payment info is collected by our third-party payment processor. You can also pay with PayPal. If you do, PayPal collects your payment info to process the sale.
B. Information We Collect When You Use Our Services
- Device Sensor Data: When you use the Petal, we collect ECG data. ECG tracks the electrical activity of your heart over time, and we also collect BIA data. BIA uses a safe, low-level electrical current to gauge body fat and muscle. We also collect IMU data from the accelerometer and gyroscope, which covers force, angular rate, and device position. Some laws call ECG and BIA data "biometric." We require your clear, unbundled consent in the app before we collect or use this data.
- Sync & Technical Data: When the Petal syncs with the app, we collect your Bluetooth ID, app logs, and sensor logs (for ECG, BIA, and IMU data). We also track device status, such as the Petal mode (active, scheduled, or low battery) and battery level. We do not track your GPS location today.
- Third-Party Integrations: The Jano app links with Apple HealthKit. If you turn this on, we send data like heart rate, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability to HealthKit. We also pull data from HealthKit to improve your app. This includes body fat, BMI, birth date, blood pressure, heart rate alerts (high, low, or uneven rhythm), mindful minutes, state of mind, and workouts. We do not pull sleep phase data or reproductive health data (like birth control or spotting) from HealthKit.
- Device Information: We get data about the device and software you use. This includes your IP address (which hints at your rough location), device type, device IDs, web browser type and version, and operating system version.
- Usage Information: We log how you use our Services, which covers the pages you view, the site you came from, and when you visit us.
- Information from Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies: We and our partners track your activity on our Services. We do this with cookies, pixel tags, SDKs, and other tools. Analytics, ad, and security partners may use these tools to track you over time and across sites. We take technical measures to block third-party ad tracking pixels inside the Jano mobile app. We only allow them on our marketing sites and landing pages.

- Vendors and Service Providers: We may share data with vendors and service providers who help us run our Services.

We share anonymized data with AI consultants in India and South Korea. We also work with schools like George Washington University, and in the future, we may publish results based on de-identified data. This could be at a conference or in a peer-reviewed journal.
- Professional Sharing: You can export your data as a PDF in the Petal app. You can then share it with your coach, trainer, or doctor. You can also share data on your own through Apple Health.
- Analytics Partners: We use analytics tools like Klaviyo and Google Analytics. You can read about Google's practices at https://www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners.

Some of these partners are in the Digital Advertising Alliance (https://optout.aboutads.info) and serve ads using cookies. Visit their opt-out pages to learn how to opt out of web-based personalized ads from member firms. These opt-outs only apply to our ad partners in those groups. As noted above, we take technical measures to block ad trackers in the mobile app.

For example, this may happen if you post harmful content on our Services.
- Merger, Sale, or Other Asset Transfers: We may share your info with service providers, advisors, or possible deal partners. This may happen when we consider, plan, or close a deal, such as a merger or an asset sale. After any such deal, your info will be used under this Privacy Policy as it stood when we collected the info.
- Consent: We may also disclose your information with your permission.

Third Parties
Our Services may link to sites, products, or services we do not own or run. We are not liable for their privacy practices, and this Privacy Policy does not cover those services or the info you give them. Please read their privacy policies before you share your info.
Security and Data Retention
We take reasonable steps to protect your info using physical and electronic safeguards, but no online system is fully secure. So we can't guarantee the privacy of your info.
To protect data in transit, we encrypt data over Bluetooth (BLE level 2) from the Petal to the app. We use TLS between the app and the cloud, and we do not store biometric data to log you in; instead, we use the built-in biometric features of iOS and Android. For example, you can use FaceID or TouchID to unlock the app.
We keep your health and biometric data for seven (7) years. This lets you see long-term baseline trends. After that, or when you delete your account, we either erase your data or de-identify it. Once de-identified, it can't be linked to you or your device. We commit to maintaining and using this data only in a de-identified format and will not attempt to re-identify it.
Children’s Privacy
We do not knowingly collect or use data from children under 18, and no part of our Services is aimed at children. You must be 18 or older to use the Petal and the app. If you think a child has shared data with us, please email privacy@petal.today.
International Visitors
Our Services are hosted in the United States and meant for U.S. users. Today, the Jano Petal is sold only in the U.S. Canada is likely our next market. You may use our Services from the E.U. or other places with different data laws. If so, you agree to send your data to the U.S. for storage and use. We may also send your data from the U.S. to other countries. We do this to store data, process your requests, and run the Services. By sharing your data with us, you agree to this transfer, storage, and use..
Update Your Information
You can update your account information through your profile settings.
