About Petal

Our Mission

Petal empowers women with data they’ve never had from the body they’ve always known.

Petal was founded on the belief that women deserve more when it comes to their healthcare. Despite making up over 50% of the population, women have been systemically excluded from medical research, innovation funding and traditional health metrics. We’re here to change that reality.

Our Story

THE CATALYST FOR CHANGE

The inspiration for Petal grew from a profound personal loss, directly connected to the state of women’s health care.

Our founder Anand Janefalkar witnessed the devastating impact of breast cancer when a loved one was taken far too young. This tragedy exposed a startling reality first hand: the standard for monitoring women’s health is fundamentally under-prioritized, and female physiology is often misunderstood.

Bringing expertise in AI, wearable hardware and holistic wellness, in 2022 Anand began hiring the founding team to develop Petal with the singular goal to bridge the gap in women’s health care by making longitudinal monitoring the gold standard.

Our priority is to address the two leading health crises women face today: heart disease and breast cancer. We’re doing this through the first wearable technology built exclusively for women’s biology.

While Petal currently provides cardiovascular metabolic and hormonal insights, our vision goes much further. We are committed to a rigorous path of clinical trials and regulatory oversight to achieve our North Star of providing women with product features that support early anomaly detections in breast tissue.

With Petal, every woman can own her health story, ensuring she is informed, validated, and never again misunderstood by the medical system.

Closing the gender health gap

REDEFINING WOMEN’S HEALTH

For decades, medical models centered almost exclusively on male physiology; women weren’t required to be included in U.S clinical research trials until 1993. This systemic exclusion has created a world where women are frequently misinformed or ignored.

Heart Disease

While it is the leading cause of death for women globally, nearly nearly 78% of early warning signs are missed because female symptoms often differ from the "classic" male presentation of crushing chest pain.

Breast Cancer

Incidence rates are rising among younger populations, with diagnoses for women under 50 increasing at alarming rates including a 45.5% surge in cases among women in their twenties since the 1980s.

The Funding Gap

Women’s health has attracted only 6% of private healthcare capital over the past five years —with the imbalance even more pronounced in health tech, with just 2% of the $41.2 billion in venture funding in 2023.

Ditch BMI: Try this measurement instead

BMI creates a binary world of "good" and "bad" bodies based on arbitrary weight limits. Focusing on waist health shifts the goal. Track visceral fat easily with Petal.
